Daisy Boman
Outstanding modern sculptor, Daisy has created a visual landscape in which her unique ‘Bo-men’, each one painstakingly hand-crafted in her studio, have extraordinary adventures. They traverse challenging terrain and in their endeavours they offer us an opportunity as viewers to contemplate themes that affect all our lives.
The demands of having a young family dominated Daisy’s early career until 1981 when her husband’s job as an architect took them from their home in peaceful Belgium to South Africa to work, at the height of political unrest. It was here the seed that created the ‘Bo-men’ was sown, the small clay man quickly came to embody all elements of human struggle and accomplishment, and on Daisy’s return to Belgium in 1987 the ‘Bo-man’ became thecornerstone of all of her work.
“Sometimes it is difficult to put things into words, my works says a good deal more.”
